The federal wind energy tax credit was up for discussion. The Iowa Wind Energy Conference is underway at Hy-Vee hall this week.
Senator Charles Grassley couldn't attend, so he sent in a video message. In it, he says the future of wind energy is in jeopardy unless the wind-energy tax credit is extended.
The current tax credit is set to expire at the end of the year. Grassley introduced a bi-partisan two-year extension.
Experts say if the legislation isn't approved soon, thousands of Iowans working in the industry will be laid off. There are currently about 5,500 Iowans working in wind energy throughout five major factories in the state.
