Des Moines Firefighters battled a fire that destroyed a home Friday afternoon.

Flames were shooting out of the back of the home at 2116 Meek Avenue when firefighters arrived shortly after four o’clock Friday afternoon.

They briefly tried fighting it from the inside, but were forced to evacuate out of fears the roof would collapse.

The home is vacant, and investigators don’t know yet how the fire started.

No one was injured.
