The Great Ape Sanctuary is struggling with its budget and could close for good next month.

The sanctuary’s budget of $4 million a year shrunk to a few hundred thousand when founder Ted Townsend pulled out last year.

Re-organization made the former trust, into a sanctuary. Other animals that had been at the sanctuary, like orangutans, were sent away to other facilities.

Unless organizers raise $25,000 by May 15th the sanctuary’s seven bonobo’s will also be moved to other facilities.
