PRICE OF POLITICS, ETC: Iowa Senator Wants Respect from Soldiers

An L.A. Times story could create another firestorm on the other side of the world. The story shows photos of soldiers posing with corpses, body parts and even with a dead person’s hand on her shoulder. Another soldier uses a corpse’s middle finger to flip people off. The Pentagon’s enraged. And, of course, there’s the concern of what this could do with allies in Afghanistan.

Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley said Wednesday afternoon he hadn’t yet seen the photos but added that he should, since others would ask him about it. Grassley said, “I haven’t seen the pictures. But this is what I hope from our military people…that they show respect for human beings alive or dead. Now, I know in war-time, you gotta kill or you might be killed. But you still would show respect for a dead person.”
