A man wanted on sexual abuse charges in Des Moines has been caught in Chicago.

A news release from the U.S. Marshals says 37-year-old James Beaudrie was taken into custody Thursday morning at an apartment complex in Chicago. Authorities say Beaudrie’s mother may have lived in the complex.

When the arrest team made entry to the apartment where Beaudrie was believed to be hiding, they found he had exited through a back door in an attempt to avoid arrest. Beaudrie was found trying to hide under a stairwell and taken into custody without incident.

Earlier this week, Des Moines Police released information on Beaudrie hoping the public could help locate him. They also asked for assistance from the U.S. Marshals and a $3,500 reward was offered.

Beaudrie is facing eight counts of third degree sexual abuse for allegedly abusing at least one of his nine children. An arrest warrant was issued on April 6th and Beaudrie’s van was discovered abandoned in Salt Lake City, Utah on April 13th.

Beaudrie’s wife, Kijua, was also arrested earlier this week and charged with three counts of child neglect.

All nine of the couple’s children have been taken from their custody and placed in other homes.

Beaudrie is being taken to the Cook County Jail and will remain there before he is extradited back to Iowa.
