A south central Iowa county is ranked number one in the state on a new list, but it’s probably not the kind of honor residents would hope for.
Decatur County is considered the poorest county in the state by online financial site, Main Street.
The site used data for the 2010 Census to make the determination.
In 2010 more than 15-percent of the population lived in poverty. That’s the highest percentage since 1993.
In Decatur County just over 19-percent of the population lives in poverty.
The median household income in the county is just over $34,000.
