Unemployment numbers are continuing a downward trend in Iowa.

Iowa Workforce Development released numbers from March Friday and they show a slight dip from February. In March, 5.2-percent of Iowans were unemployed, which is down a tenth of a percent from the previous month.

“The state’s economic recovery has gained traction over the past seven months,” said Teresa Wahlert, IWD director, “A stronger hiring pattern has caused Iowa’s unemployment rate to fall from 5.9 percent in September 2011 to 5.2 percent in March 2012.”

IWD estimates that 7,700 more Iowans were employed in March of 2012 than had jobs at the same time last year.

The national unemployment rate for March was 8.2-percent.
