3,600 people kept pace with world-class athletes Tuesday night during Drake University’s Grand Blue Mile, and for some, just watching can work up a sweat. “I think it’s more of a fun thing. I like to watch the competition at the end, but it’s a fun thing for everybody to enjoy.”

The goal behind the recreational division run was to attract all types, some didn't run at all, while others pushed themselves and ran the mile in just over five minutes.

10-year old Rowen Abbis was one of many children who ran. He beat most of the adults with a time of 6 minutes and 12 seconds. “I've just always been a long-distance runner, and I’m trying to train for the half-marathon, dam-to-dam, so I thought this might be a fun race to go on. So I tried my best." said Abbis.

The third annual grand blue mile also featured four competitive races, results will be posted later.

Channel 13’s very own Andy Fales was lucky to be on the seen Tuesday to get some footage of the annual event.
