Soon travelers on I-35 will have to make different plans if a stop at an Ankeny rest area was part of their trip.

The Iowa Department of Transportation announced Wednesday it will permanently close the rest area along northbound I-35 near Ankeny on April 30th. The DOT plans to use signs to notify travelers of the 7:00 p.m. closure.

Construction on a new interchange in the area means the rest area along southbound I-35 north of Ankeny will also close, but not until August of 2012.

Two new rest areas are scheduled for construction in 2013 between exits 96 and 102 on I-35.
