The Polk County board of supervisors is paving the way for more traffic cameras.

Tuesday, the board passed a resolution with a three-to-two vote. It gives the Polk County Sheriff’s Office the go-ahead to negotiate with Gatso USA, which provides speed enforcement cameras.

The sheriff’s office is planning to get two or three mobile speed camera units. The fees are expected to be similar to other traffic cameras in central Iowa.

Officials say there is no definite timeline, but the cameras could be in place by the end of the summer.
