Three Iowa Health Physicians and Clinics OBGYN practices sent letters to their patients this week notifying them of plans to discontinue their practices at Methodist West Hospital.

That means they’ll deliver babies just at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in downtown Des Moines effective July 1st.

The letter says, the move is, “Based on the fact that the majority of our past and current patients have chosen to deliver at Iowa Methodist... And consolidating our deliveries into one location will allow us to maintain the highest level of provider coverage for you and your growing family.”

We inaccurately reported that no babies would be delivered at Methodist West Hospital. We would like to correct this information as the change only applies to patients of Iowa Health OBGYN clinics.  Other doctors are delivering babies at Methodist West Hospital and will continue to so.

According to an Iowa Health Des Moines spokesperson, Methodist West Hospital continues to provide high-quality care with an experienced staff and in-house neonatal nurse practitioner from Blank Children’s Hospital attending each birth. The Methodist West maternity center ranks in the 99th percentile for patient satisfaction nationally.
