(Update) Police say they have arrested a man they call a “person of interest” in connection with this case.  He is charged with 2 counts of 1st degree murder.  Police say two people were shot dead on Des Moines’ Southeast side.

Police were called to Seibert Trucking at 1928 SE 15th Street around 5:00 p.m. Thursday after someone called 911.

Sgt. Chris Scott with the Des Moines Police Department says, “There was no conversation with our dispatch yet dispatch could overhear an argument on the phone. A short time later what appeared to be gunshots were heard by dispatch.”

Police arrived moments later with guns drawn and swept the area.  They eventually found two male victims dead due to gunshot wounds.  During the investigation detectives identified 39-year-old Ronald J. Hawkinson as a person of interest.  Hawkinson was located in the City of Winterset and transported to Des Moines where he was interviewed.

Upon completion of the interview Hawkinson was charged with two counts of 1st degree murder.  Hawkinson has been transported to the Polk County Jail.

The identity of the victims will be released upon notification of all family.
