The Des Moines city council will vote Monday night to pay over $43,000 for the removal of ten-feet of trash along a levee.

Construction crews found the trash while trying to install a drainage pipe in April. It turns out the city used to use the site at Southeast 15th and Harriett as a landfill. Now the city needs to pay for the proper removal of the garbage.

Afterwards, crews will resume work on the drainage pipe which is being installed to remove standing water in the area.

The city is trying to get all the work done before the army corps of engineers’ levee inspections. That will happen sometime this fall.
