The body of a 10-year-old boy who disappeared in the Iowa River at Marshalltown Monday night has been recovered.

Officials say Andres Favela-Lopez was swimming with two friends near the North Center Street Dam just after 7:30 p.m. Monday when he went under the water and didn’t resurface.

The Marshalltown Fire Department assisted police along with the Story County Search and Rescue scuba divers and a K9 unit searching for the body Monday night but the search was suspended around 10:00 because of safety concerns.

Crews resumed their search for the boy Tuesday morning and his body was located just after 10:00 a.m. in the area where he disappeared.
