Hy-Vee shoppers in Urbandale will need to find another store to shop for their groceries at when the store closes temporarily mid-July.

The existing Urbandale store at 86th and Douglas will be leveled to provide parking for the new store, at the same location, which is set to open on August 14th.

The store will close its doors July 15th at 6:00 p.m.

“We need to make sure we have sufficient parking available for our customers for the grand opening on August 14th, and to do that, we need to tear down the existing store building, level the site and build our parking lot,” said Josh Asche, Urbandale Hy-Vee store director.

Hy-Vee says the new store will be its largest-ever supermarket and feature several concepts new to Hy-Vee stores. A casual dining restaurant, the Market Fresh Grille, will be part of the store and offer customers meals crafted by the store’s chefs.

A sushi bar, coffee shop, juice bar, and oatmeal bar are also planned.

Customers inconvenienced by the closure are being offered incentives to shop at other Hy-Vee stores and the pharmacy and Midwest Heritage Bank branch will be open in the new story starting July 16th.
