PERRY CHASE: Perry Man Stabs Himself After Chase

A Perry man was tased after fleeing from cops and then attempting to stab himself. 

According to officials, Perry police officers tried to pull over 35-year-old Ndadarakiye Ngoyi of Perry after he ran a stop sign at the intersection of 18th Street and Iowa Street in Perry. 

Police followed Ngoyi until he reached his apartment complex where he circled through the parking lot and attempted to flee out the entrance. 

Another officer had entered the parking lot and Ngoyi hit the officer’s patrol car head on. 

Ngoyi then started stabbing himself with a utility knife.  Officers approached the vehicle and tased Ngoyi and began first aid. 

Ngoyi was Lifeflighted to Methodist Hospital. 

Charges are pending.

The Iowa State Patrol was called in to complete the accident investigation.
