Osmundson Manufacturing Company of Perry has donated more than 68,000 pounds of steel to the Des Moines Area Community College Welding Program.

The steel is being used at the Ankeny and Newton campuses and Perry’s VanKirk Career Academy.

Welding Department Chair Mike Rahn said getting all the steel was like hitting the lottery.  The steel that has been donated is said to be about $10,000 worth.  Rahn also says the type of steel Osmundson donated will allow students to gain valuable experience and help them become the most skilled workers in the state.

Ryan Junge, an Osmundon Engineer, said that they feel they are benefitting Iowa’s manufacturing industry and that they will continue to donate scrap metal to DMACC.
