Guests at a Clive hotel were evacuated early Thursday morning after a fire.

The Clive Fire Department received a 911 call from the front desk at the Days Inn on 114th Street just before 4:30 a.m.

The front desk manager reported smoke on the second floor of the hotel.

When crews arrived, they found a small fire on the outside of the hotel.

At that time the building was evacuated.

Crews from five fire departments responded to the fire, which took about 20 minutes to put out.

Clive Assistant Fire Chief, Brian Helland says that’s a standard response to this kind of fire. “Anytime we have a high life hazard, we always make sure we’re geared up and ready to go for something that could be a major event.  And that way we don’t get caught flat-footed.”

At this time the cause of the fire is unknown, but Helland says it did start around an electrical box.

No one was injured, and the damage was contained to the outside of the hotel.
