West Des Moines-trained gymnast Gabby Douglas started her whirlwind media tour with Jay Leno and the First Lady.

Douglas showed off her gold medal on The Tonight Show Monday. Michelle Obama was also a guest on the show.

Douglas told Leno winning the gold was even better than she dreamed. She also talked about her splurge after the Olympics – an egg McMuffin and her plans to continue training to compete in the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Douglas also talked about how she ended up training at Chow’s Gymnastics, leaving Virginia and family at age 14.

“I remember watching Shawn and Chow at the Beijing Olympics and something clicked and I said I wanted to be with him,” Douglas told Leno.

She said, “It was really hard to make that decision. I had to ask my mom, she’s like, no. With my brothers and sisters I had to persuade my mom, I had to do this.

Gabby and the other members of the gold-medal U.S. Women’s Gymnastics Team sat down with Matt Lauer and Savannah Guthrie Tuesday morning on The Today Show.

On Thursday, she’ll be featured again on Rock Center with Brian Williams in a story about what happens after athletes win gold.
