Investigators in Council Bluffs say children playing with a lighter led to a deadly fire this weekend.

The home was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived Saturday morning.  Despite heavy smoke, firefighters were able to reach the second floor to rescue four-year old Leland Johnson.  He was unconscious in an upstairs bedroom and later died of his injuries.

The homeowner and her two other children escaped uninjured.

Police say none of the smoke alarms in the home were working at the time of the fire.
