A debate scheduled between Congressman Steve King and his opponent, Christie Vilsack has been canceled.

Sponsors say King has withdrawn from the September 22nd debate in Ames due to formatting issues.

Sources say King wanted a Lincoln-Douglas style debate where the candidates ask each other questions without a moderator.

The sponsor tried to compromise offering 30 minutes without a moderator and 60 minutes with one, but the King campaign didn’t go for it.

Both candidates are scheduled to debate in several other Iowa cities before the election.
