No one was hurt in a crash on Des Moines’ southeast side Thursday, but it made for a messy evening commute.

Police say it happened around 6:00 p.m.  A car heading southbound on Southeast 14th street got a flat tire.  The driver pulled over, but the driver of a dump truck right behind the car didn’t see it in time to slow down, and rear-ended it.

The impact threw the dump truck into the northbound lanes, grinding traffic to a halt and prompting officers to set up a detour.

Hazmat crews were also called in to clean up oil that was leaking into the river.
