A gas main break on Des Moines’ east side could mess up your travel plans Thursday.

Construction crews hit a gas line in the 3700 block of East 14th Street. The road is closed between East Madison Avenue and East Seneca Avenue while repairs are made to the gas main.

Officials aren’t certain how long the road will be closed but say it could be late in the day before it is re-opened. Motorists are being urged to avoid the area.
