A Black Hawk County jury has found Dunkerton Mayor Mike Schares and his nephew Thomas Adamson guilty of harassing a public official and interfering with official acts.

The incident that led to Schares and Adamson’s convictions started out as a traffic stop on December 2nd. Dunkerton Police Officer Robert Roquet pulled over Teresa Adamson for speeding and her husband called Schares for help fighting the ticket.

Schares later fired Roquet but the city attorney says the firing wasn’t official. He returned to work as a police officer.

The jury reached the verdict just before noon Thursday after about an hour and a half of deliberating.
