More officers will be on Iowa roads for the Labor Day holiday starting Thursday.

It’s part of the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” traffic enforcement program. The effort runs through September 5th.

Officers will be keeping an eye out for impaired drivers but won’t turn a blind eye to other traffic infractions.

During the week of July 4th a similar traffic project was held. Officers had 295 contacts with alcohol and drug impaired drivers. More than 1,100 seat belt and 4,600 speeding violations were also handed out.

More than 200 wanted persons were arrested and taken into custody during the project.
