A special program kicked off today helping woman detect if they could have the early stages of breast cancer.

Iowa Lutheran Hospital hosted Pink Days offering free mammograms for women who are under or uninsured.

Since the event began in 2008, the hospital has given 300 free mammograms to woman around the metro.

The hospital received a grant to pay for the mammograms which are open to any woman 40 and older who otherwise wouldn’t be able to be screened.

Those hosting the event say, it’s nice to know they’re providing a service to help woman know they are keeping their health a priority.

“I think it’s very satisfying to come in and help women, women are very appreciative of something like this, I’ve already done a few patients today and they couldn’t thank us enough for offering this,” says Mammographer Nicole Williams.

Iowa Lutheran will continue to offer free mammograms until they grant they received runs out.
