Supporting local business was the message one group is trying to get out to the public.

The Iowa Florist Association met to make hundreds of bouquets they plan to hand out to the public for free.

They want to get the word out about choosing a local florist for your needs, rather than turning to the internet.

The group says by going local you can avoid additional fees, receive more personalized service, and get the most bang for your buck.

“You may spend $50 on an arrangement and only get $25 to your recipient, which is very disappointing. Whereas if you call your local florist you’ll get the full value, so it just makes sense, it makes perfect sense,” says Jody Fairchild-VanDeKorl from the Iowa Florist Association.

The group will be wearing tie-dye t-shirts and handing out the free bouquets on Court Avenue in Des Moines starting at 8:00 p.m. Saturday evening.
