Two people are dead after an overnight accident on Interstate 80/35. It happened around 1:00 a.m. Tuesday just west of the 2nd Ave. exit.

The State Patrol says 25-year-old Brandon Anderson of Des Moines was driving eastbound in the westbound lanes when his Mini Cooper hit another car head-on.

Anderson and the driver of the other car, 53-year-old Kevin O’Sullivan of Elizabeth, Illinois, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The Iowa State Patrol closed the westbound lanes for more than two hours while it investigated the crash. Troopers say there was no evidence either vehicle tried to stop.

Troopers say they are looking into whether alcohol played a factor in the accident.
