An advocate for change in child abduction programs and legislation is coming to Iowa.

Elizabeth Smart will be in Des Moines Thursday.

Smart was abducted from her family’s home while she slept in June of 2002 at the age of 14. She was held prisoner for nine months and was sexually abused before she was found.

This year marks the 10 year anniversary of Smart’s abduction.

She’ll speak on behalf of the Regional Child Protection Center at Blank’s Children’s Hospital in the morning and hold a fundraiser at Hoyt Sherman Place for the center in the evening. Tickets for the event are still available.
