Iowans might be dealing with a stinky problem because of one type of little bug.

Stink bugs have been reported in 38 states including Iowa. Only 33 states reported the presence of the bugs last year.

Scientists say the increase is due to a long, hot summer and that the stink bug’s natural predators have not been able to keep up with the growing population.

Stink bugs give off a pungent smell when they’re frightened or crushed.

They will likely enter homes as the weather cools in the fall.
