Two people were injured Tuesday morning after an Amish buggy collided with a semi in Appanoose County.

The Appanoose County Sheriff’s Office says the accident happened in the 12800 block of 580th Street, southwest of Numa. Officials say the buggy was heading westbound when the horse suddenly moved to the left, into oncoming traffic. A semi that was traveling eastbound tried to slow down but the buggy and semi collided.

The two female occupants of the buggy, ages eighteen and 10, were thrown from the buggy. The 18-year-old was transported to a Des Moines hospital by air ambulance. The eight-year-old was taken to the Wayne County Hospital for treatment. Their conditions are unknown.

The driver of the semi was not injured.

Officials are still investigating the accident.
