Fred Hoiberg has won everything from Iowa’s best high school football player to Big 12 basketball Coach of the Year – and he’s about to add another honor.

Hoiberg is the recipient of the Robert Ray Pillar of Character Award.

Governor Ray announced the award Tuesday morning at Iowa State University.

Hoiberg follows past role model winners, including Olympic gold medalist Shawn Johnson.

Hoiberg praises Johnson for her work, “She has done a great job with the anti-bullying campaign and just with several efforts that she’s done to get people to move and help them be active is awesome.”

The award will be officially presented at a ceremony in West Des Moines on April 19th.
