Veterans have helped protect our country and for one Des Moines family, they even helped provide a new home.

Habitat for Humanity dedicated a home Monday at 3318 Fifth Avenue to Isha Kamara and her three children.

The home was built as part of the organization’s “Veterans Build" program and nearly 200 vets helped construct it.

Some of them were even on hand for the dedication and presented the family with an American flag.

It's the 26th new home that Habitat for Humanity has dedicated in Des Moines in 2012.

"This is a double special day as we honor and recognize the good work the veterans do while creating the safety and security that home ownership does," said Lance Henning, the executive director for the central Iowa chapter of Habitat for Humanity.

The organization will dedicate five more homes in Des Moines on Saturday.
