SHOOTING DEATH: Police Investigate Officer Involved Shooting

The Waterloo Police Department in investigating an officer involved shooting.

Police say they took a call from someone who heard a gunshot outside of a bar around 1:45 A.M. Sunday. Officer Kyle Law was nearby and responded.

Officer Law found 22-year-old Derrick Ambrose pointing a gun at a crowd of people. He ordered Ambrose to drop the gun, but instead Ambrose ran off.

During the chase, police say Ambrose stepped out from behind a tree, Officer Law shot him in the head and killed him.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation will now determine whether the shooting was justified.

Meanwhile, Officer Law is on administrative leave, he is a three year veteran of the department.
