A Storm Lake woman has been arrested after police found 15 dead cats in her abandoned home.

Forty-two-year-old Dawn Williams is facing 15 counts of animal neglect.

Authorities responded to her home on a possible burglary Saturday. Police went through an unlocked door and found the skeletal remains throughout the home, along with a large amount of animal feces and waste.

Police say Williams abandoned the home six months ago, locking the cats inside. Police say it appears the cats starting feeding on each other after running out of food.

There were no living animals found inside the home.

Williams was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $15,000 cash bond.
