The Cyclones are going to a bowl game with a 6-6 record, but the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs won't be going anywhere despite their 9-9 record. Former ISU Athletic Director Bruce Van de Velde is being blamed.

Van de Velde is now the Athletic Director at Louisiana Tech.

The Independence Bowl offered the team a bid on Saturday, but Van de Velde told them he was weighing other options.  So bowl officials set a deadline for him to accept or decline the bid and they say, by the time Van de Velde finally called them back to accept, it was past the deadline, and the bid had been given to the University of Ohio.

Van de Velde says he was holding out hope his team would be picked for the Liberty Bowl spot that went to Iowa State.
