POLICE SHOOTING: Woman Shot By Police After Chase

An officer involved shooting in Cedar Rapids Tuesday morning left one woman dead.

The shooting happened around 2:30 a.m. when officers with the Cedar Rapids Police Department tried to make a traffic stop. The driver didn’t stop and led police on a chase.

When the vehicle finally stopped officers approached but the female driver showed a handgun and officers fired on her. She was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital where she died from her injuries.

The names of the woman killed and the officers involved in the shooting have not been released.

The investigation into the shooting is being handled by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
