The Ankeny City Council is planning to appoint a new mayor on Monday. Due to the number of candidates, the council decided they needed more time to review the applications.

Ankney’s mayor, Steve Van Orrt’s last day on the job is tomorrow.  Last month he was elected to the Polk County Board of Supervisors.

The special meeting to find an interim will be this Monday at 5 o’clock.

The public has 14 days if someone wishes to file a petition, after which, the council will select an interim mayor to fill out the rest of Van Oort’s term.
