People who want to get rid of the Iowa straw poll got some more ammunition today in the form an online editorial.

The straw poll ranks number 6 on Politico’s list of “most delusional campaign moments.”

Minnesota representative Michele Bachmann won the poll in August of last year with the help of country singer, Randy Travis for a concert in Ames. She then finished a distant 6th in the Iowa caucuses just 5 months later.

Former Minnesota governor Tim Pawlenty staked his campaign on a straw poll win. But he dropped out within days of a disappointing 3rd place caucus finish.

In the editorial, Tim Pawlenty’s campaign strategist Phil Musser said of the straw poll, “It`s not a caucus. It`s a joke.”

This comes on the back of Gov. Branstad’s comments that, “the Iowa straw poll’s time has come to an end.”

Iowa Republican Party chairman A.J. Spiker says the future of the straw poll lies with the GOP State Central Committee.
