Iowa families took advantage of some holiday bargains Saturday.

The sixth annual Christmas Boutique was held at the Salvation Army on Sixth Avenue in Des Moines.

Families from local shelters were invited for a day of shopping with items marked down as much as 90%.

Some items for sale included kitchen supplies, toys, and clothes.

Employees at Pioneer and students from Saint Pius Middle School donated the merchandise.

“They get to shop, they get to choose gifts, they get to for them themselves, and they go home speaking about the bargains they got rather than the charity they got,” said event organizer, Mary Oliver.

Families could get their gifts wrapped for free.

Organizers will hold another Christmas Boutique there next Saturday.
