A former Des Moines Police Officer learned his fate Wednesday.

A federal judge sentenced Mersed Dautovic to 20 months in prison for his use of excessive force during a traffic stop in 2008.

According to reports, Dautovic severely beat Octavious Bonds with a police baton and he suffered extensive injuries.

Dautovic also faces state charges of willful injury, felony misconduct and perjury.

He is expected to enter a plea to those charges on Friday.

Former fellow Officer John Mailander was also charged in the case. He’s already plead guilty to both state and federal charges and is awaiting sentencing.
