A Fairfield man was killed in a single vehicle accident early Tuesday morning in Wapello County and investigators believe the driver of the vehicle, his son, was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The Wapello County Sheriff’s Office says 44-year-old Donald Gridley was driving a truck north on Competine Road when he failed to stop at a T intersection with 165th Street. The truck entered the north ditch and came to a stop.

The passenger in the vehicle, 65-year-old Patrick Gridley, died from the injuries he received in the accident.

Donald Gridley was transported to University of Iowa Hospitals by air ambulance. His condition has not been released.

The Iowa State Patrol’s preliminary report of the accident says he was under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or medications and charges are pending in the crash.
