Seventy-one-years after she finished up the 8th grade, an eastern Iowa woman has earned her GED.

Eighty-five-year-old Lois Houselog of Dubuque received her high school diploma Wednesday night at Northeast Iowa Community College’s Dubuque campus.

Houselog, who completed the 8th grade in 1941, attended two months of daily classes before getting the equivalent of a high school diploma. She said the most difficult part of the course for her was the math, because she hadn’t had taken algebra or geometry before her GED classes began.

Houselog says she’s not sure what’s is next for her, but undoubtedly she’ll come up with something.
