An employee at the Science Center of Iowa is putting his hidden talent on display to help promote a new movie.

The Hobbit opens at the I-MAX with a midnight premier on Friday morning.

When his co-workers were discussing ways to promote the movie, Chris Haines offered to paint the large window outside the theater.

Haines is the food and beverage manager during the day, but he says he transitions into an artist before and after his shifts.

Haines says he’s done some window painting in the past, but nothing of this size.

He started with grid paper to plot everything out, but he said the real challenge was having to paint on the back of the glass, so everything was done in reverse order.

The movie will play at the I-MAX through December 23rd the painting will remain on display until then.
