The Morningside Mustangs were heading for their first title with a 13 - 0 record.

Last week, they thumped the defending National Champions, Saint Xavier, 47-19.

Morningside head coach, Steve Ryan led the Mustangs out in Rome, Georgia.

With the first quarter tied at 7, Morningside’s Joel Nixon scrambles, buys time, time enough to fill out a few Christmas cards, then he looked for Joel McCabe. Got him!  Morningside in control and up by 10.

But in the fourth quarter, after a Morningside gamble backfires, Marian’s Adam Weesy drops it to Nathan Jones, Jones doesn’t go down. Marian leads 24-20.

Final chance for Morningside, 4th and 15. This is it. Nixon throws it up and somehow Cherokee’s Kyle Shuck wrestles it away. The Mustangs still have life.

With just over a minute to go, Morningside are still alive. Nixon to Cherokee’s Shuck!

Touchdown! Morningside up 3, but Marian kicks a field goal to send it to overtime.

Then in OT, with the game tied at 27, Marian of Indianapolis go for the win and make it.

Heartbreak for Morningside, losing 30 to 27.
