An area radio personality played Santa to some metro families Friday morning.

WHO Radio’s Van Hardin joined 30 volunteers from Iowa Select Farms to hand out 2,500 pork loin roasts to needy families.

Roasts were limited to one per family.

The giveaway took place at the Iowa State Fairgrounds; those who were on hand were encouraged to pass the pork along to people in need.

Del Gifford says that is exactly what he plans to do.  “With what everybody’s going through, the way the economy is, it’s hard to find work and there are families out there that don’t have the resources to get food on the table. I figured I’d help them out, and try to make their Christmas a little merrier.”
