Happy Friday from Megan! Patrick has a much deserved morning off, so I got to fill-in with Brooke. More on that in a minute…

But first, my heart is breaking for all the families going through unimaginable times this holiday season. There is so much pain and suffering in Eastern Iowa as family and friends got together in Cedar Falls to celebrate the life of 8 year-old Elizabeth Collins. My husband worked on that story with Aaron Brilbeck last night. He was amazed out how many pictures the family shared of the beautiful girl during the service. We can’t even imagine what it would be like to have to do that. I’m also amazed at how composed her parents have been when talking to the media.

I’m also thinking about Kelsey Michelsen. Services for the 15-year-old are today at 11:00 at Lutheran Church of the Cross in Altoona. Erin Kiernan has been following her battle with brain cancer the past two years. It’s hard not to be moved by her stories. I met Kelsey and her mom at Blank Children’s Therapy this summer. Kelsey was so determined and her mom was so upbeat. The entire Southeast Polk community has rallied around the family. I hope this gives them some comfort during this difficult time.

On a much lighter note, if you tuned in this morning, you noticed all women. We missed Patrick, but had fun talking about girl stuff during commercial breaks. Thanks for letting me fill in, and have a nice weekend everyone!
