Des Moines police were led on a short chase Friday morning that ended on the city’s south side.

Police say they tried to make a traffic stop on a grey Dodge Durango but the driver, Rodney Saltzman of Des Moines, refused to stop. Officials say during the chase Saltzman threw narcotics out of the window of the vehicle.

The chase ended at SW 16th and Army Post Road, when officers were able to box his vehicle in.

Saltzman resisted arrest and Officer Scott Fisher suffered a broken finger while trying to take him into custody. He is being treated for the injury.

Saltzman is facing several traffic charges for the chase and more charges are expected in the case.
