The inaugural big 4 classic tips off Saturday from the well.

On paper this looks like a slam dunk event, but not everyone is thrilled about it.

The 2 games will be great for fans, but it does take away a big in-state home game for Drake and UNI every 2 years.

Those games are huge moneymakers for the smaller schools. “If you talk to us and Northern Iowa, we would like to have those big games in our gym.” Drake head coach, Mark Phelps said.

The matchup between the state’s four Division I men’s basketball programs will begin with Iowa and UNI at 1.30 p.m. and will follow with ISU and Drake.

The schools have agreed to share the costs and the profits of the doubleheader.
