Congressman Tom Latham says congressional leaders and the White House are once again pushing to retire the F-16 squadron at Des Moines’ 132nd Fighter Wing.

Earlier this year, the House and Senate both approved national defense budgets that would keep the F-16s flying over Des Moines.

Now that both sides are negotiating a final bill with the White House, Latham says the 132nd’s jets are back on the chopping block.

Latham says he will continue to fight to reinstate funding for the unit’s fighter jets even if that means introducing standalone legislation.

If the 132nd loses the squadron, as many as 400 Des Moines area jobs could be cut.
